Basic configuration of Exceed and puTTY

Click on start->All Programs ->Open Text Exceed 14 x64->Exceed Tools->Xconfig

Select 'Security' and check the No Host Access box.


Go back and select "Network and Communication" and make sure than the window mode is set to "Passive". Click "Validate and apply changes".

Select "Display and Video", and in the window that pops up make sure that the window mode is set to "single". Click "Validate and apply changes"

Now "Launch exceed with the current settings"

Launch puTTY;

Enter the hostname of the server you wish to connect too in the Host Name box, e.g. "ppxint6.physics.ox.ac.uk".

In the left pane, expand the 'SSH' tab and click on 'X11';

Click "Enable X11 forwarding";

Set the "X display location" to "localhost:0" (this step is necessary in only some versions of "puTTY";

In the left pane, select "Data";

Enter the user name for the server, e.g. "brisbane";

(Optional and for Scientific Linux) select the SSH tab in the left pane and write "startkde" in the "Remote command" box for a full desktop environment.

If you logged onto the Windows machine using your physics user name and password, or you have kerberos for Windows installed on your own PC, you will also want to enable automatic log on via GSSAPI, as shown in the image below. Be sure to enalble GSSAPI credential delegation and that you are running PuTTY >=0.63.

In the "Session" tab, save the configuration under a sensible name by writing the name in the "Saved Sessions" box and clicking "Save".

Double click your saved configuration to begin.
