Alumni event - Oxford10 Christmas drinks at the House of Lords
(this event is organised by the central Alumni Office and Physics Alumni who graduated in the last ten years are encouraged to take part)
All Oxonians who have graduated in the last ten years are invited to a Christmas party at the House of Lords. Hosted by the youngest member of the House of Lords, Lord Wei of Shoreditch (Jesus College), the evening will feature drinks, bowl food and guided night time tours of the Lords in the magnificent Palace of Westminster.

The Physics Department Carol Service will be held this year on Friday 20th December at 4:00 pm in the University Church of St Mary the Virgin followed by wine and mince pies in the Church.

2013 Nobel Prize in Physics
Peter Higgs and Francois Englert have been awarded the 2013 Nobel Prize in Physics for devising a mechanism to generate mass in gauge theories, and for predicting the existence of a new scalar boson resulting from this mechanism.
Nearly 50 years after the seminal papers written separately by Peter Higgs and by Francois Englert and Robert Brout, a boson with properties consistent with their predictions was discovered at the Large Hadron Collider in Geneva, Switzerland.

Our panel made up of leading conservationists and award-winning film makers will discuss the challenges conservation faces in natural history programming. Find out about the experiences of those behind the camera and on the ground observing and helping the planet’s wildlife.

Join fellow alumni at the European Alumni Reunion, in Madrid, for a variety of activities, lectures and events.
Physics will host an afternoon of guided tour, lectures and drinks reception at the Real Observatorio de Madrid, where a copy of the Herschel telescope has been built to scale, among other interesting things.
