Each year the Department of Physics invites school students to create an A3 poster to promote an area within physics. The subject of this year’s competition is weather and climate. This competition can be completed at home or in school.

1. Public information poster

A one-day workshop on solving physics problems on Saturday 18th June 2016. The day will cover extending able students in class through providing extension classes to help them explore their interest in physics. Teachers with experience in stretching students in physics will be present to offer advice, suggestions, ideas and answer questions.

This event is sponsored by the British Physics Olympiad which is supported by the University of Oxford. Staff from the Department of Physics will also be at the event to talk about admissions.

Oxford Physics, St John's College and British Physics Olympiad invite school physics teachers to attend the first Oxford Physics Teachers Conference.

The event provides the opportunity to find out about advances in cutting edge physics and provides guidance and resources on helping your students to develop advanced problem solving skills in physics. Example physics problems will be explored along with simple demonstrations that are designed to challenge students into new ways of thinking.

The Department of Physics and St John's College are hosting the first British Physics Olympiad Masterclass for Year 12 students who achieved a Gold Award in the AS Challenge.

Through specialised talks and workshops, the event aims to broaden knowledge and experience of Physics and develop problem-solving skills.

You'll meet other top AS physics students from across the UK and get to experience life as an Oxford University undergraduate student.

We endeavor to offer admissions talks, demonstrations, tours of the department and the chance to speak to current tutors and students.

APPEAL 7 - Understanding the Universe – From Gravitational Waves to Sub-atomic Particles

With the announcement of the discovery of gravitational waves earlier this year and the LHC finding the elusive Higgs boson in 2012, now is a great time to discuss the connections between astrophysics, particle physics and accelerators with A-level pupils.
