Further support for our collaborations with the growing UK quantum industry
Oxford Physicists have partnered with UK quantum technology companies to win funding in the latest Innovate UK competition. Three of our collaborative projects were awarded grants and are described below.

New industrial applications by driving particle accelerators with lasers
Simon Hooker is a Professor of Atomic and Laser Physics at Oxford and Chris Arran and Robert Shalloo are two of his graduate students. They discuss the group's work on developing plasma accelerators for real-world applications.

Oxford Physics Quantum projects secure industry funding
The Department of Physics has been successful in winning funding for three new exciting projects in the latest quantum technologies competition, which was co-funded by Innovate UK and the Engineering and Physical Sciences Research Council (EPSRC). Of the funding, 65% will go towards supporting company activities, and the remaining 35% to academic research.

Professor Tony Bell elected Fellow of the Royal Society
Congratulations to Professor Tony Bell who has been elected as a Fellow of the Royal Society for his outstanding contributions to science. Tony is best known for his pioneering work into astrophysical and laser-produced plasmas, as well as work looking at cosmic ray acceleration.

Many congratulations to Subir Sarkar who has been awarded the IUPAP-TIFR Homi Bhabha Medal and Prize 2017.
This prize is awarded for distinguished contributions in high energy cosmic ray physics and astro-particle physics.
