Oxford Nanotechnology Summer School 2011. Nanotechnology for Medicine and Healthcare

Date:
4 Jul 2011 - 12:00am to 8 Jul 2011 - 12:00am

Nanotechnology is a new exciting field that has the potential to transform the way that medical and healthcare solutions are developed and delivered. This year’s Nanomedicine Summer School will focus on the impact that nanotechnology has in the advance of medicine, healthcare and bio-sensing techniques and discuss how to progress this area to meet future needs.

T2K Experiment finds first indication of muon to electron neutrino oscillation

The T2K experiment, whose primary purpose is to study neutrino interactions at a large distance from their source, has detected 6 electron neutrino candidate events based on the data collected before March 11, 2011. For the first time, it was possible to observe an indication that muon neutrinos are able to transform into electron neutrinos over a distance of 295 km through the quantum mechanical phenomena of neutrino flavor oscillations.

International summer school on ultrafast coherent and quantum control

Date:
29 Aug 2011 - 5:00pm to 1 Sep 2011 - 5:00pm

The FASTQUAST consortium is convening an international summer school, open to all, focussed on introducing young researchers to the powerful emerging techniques of coherent control in quantum systems using ultrafast laser pulses. A packed programme of talks from the leading lights in the field will introduce the theory and practice of optimally manipulating quantum states, generating and characterising ultrafast and non-classical optical pulses, and engineering interactions to achieve unprecedented control over the internal states of atoms and molecules.

Physics 2.0

We're delighted to show you our new website. It has been many months in the making, and is the first of many exciting new web developments for the department.

The site is a big step forward for us, mainly because we've built it using a sophisticated content management system. This lets us share responsibility for maintaining our site content, so that we can all keep the site up to date, effective and beautiful.
