AOPP Alumni Event - 'Climate change in the run-up to the Paris conference: what has Physics got to say?'

Prof David Marshall, Prof Tim Palmer CBE FRS, Prof Laure Zanna, Prof Myles Allen and Prof Raymond Pierrehumbert, some of the current faculty in Atmospheric, Oceanic and Planetary Physics in Oxford engaged in the research that underpins the whole debate over climate change, hosted a fantastic event at The Royal Society, London, last November.
Before the event, The Royal Society offered a tour of the Organisation to Physics Alumni attending the AOPP event.

Meeting Minds Alumni Weekend in Oxford

Physics opened its doors to alumni and friends on Friday 18th (with the popular telescope tours) and on Saturday 19th, with lectures, posters, members of staff to talk to about Particle Physics, Space Instruments and Atomic and Laser Physics among other things; followed by a reception.

For the second year, on Friday 22nd May, we held our Leavers 2015 celebrations.
A chance for leavers to pick up their alumni card and learn about all the benefits of being part of the University of Oxford and Physics Alumni Community, as well as meet fellow physicists and wish each other farewell while enjoying a buffet lunch.

'Dear Harry...' a new special exhibition at the Museum of the History of Science, Oxford.

Today 14th May, open a new fantastic exhibition focused on the life and achievements of Henry G.J.Moseley, entitled 'Dear Harry...'

We attended the official launch at the Museum, and reception at Trinity College on Tuesday, and had a chance to have a look at this excellent showcase of his life and work.

'Henry G.J. Moseley: Physicist and Soldier' Alumni Networking Event last week

Last week we held a lovely and informative event at the Soldiers of Oxfordshire Museum in Woodstock, to commemorate and honour the life of Henry G. J. Moseley.
Prof Derek Stacey (Department of Physics) and Dr Elizabeth Bruton (Museum of the History of Science)gave a joint presentation ' Sacrifice of a Genius’: Henry Moseley, scientist and soldier ' followed by a drinks and nibbles reception, and a chance to see the museum collections with staff members at hand to answer all questions.

Physics Christmas Carol Service 2014

The traditional Physics Christmas Carol Service took place yesterday in St Mary the Virgin Church (High St, Oxford.
About 100 people attended the lovely event, and heard the choir sing; readings by Prof Dame Jocelyn Bell Burnell (Astrophysics) and Professor Robert Taylor (Condensed Matter Physics) and enjoyed an informal reception with wine and mince pies.

As always, it is wonderful to see so many old and new friends on this occasion, and we look forward to the next one.
