Accelerate!

Accelerate! is an exciting, live-action lecture all about particle physics designed for 11–18 year-olds and the general public. Through a series of hands-on demonstrations, you’ll learn how to drive a particle accelerator, from the thousands of small machines which are used in medicine and industry, to the enormous 27 km ring of the Large Hadron Collider in Switzerland.

If you’re interested in seeing Accelerate!, you might be in luck—the show is currently being rolled out across the south-east of England with the help of SEPnet, the South-East Physics Network.

If you’re a university, science centre or other outreach organisation, you might want to put on your own Accelerate! shows, and you’d be in luck again because we’ve put together a set of resources (including videos!) which should tell you most of what you need to know to put on your own version of the show. We hope this tookit might also be useful to teachers or science communicators who just want to do one or more of the demos and link them to particle accelerators, so do take a look.
