Particle Theory

We are based in the Rudolf Peierls Centre for Theoretical Physics, which is part of the Department of Physics at Oxford University. Particle theory involves both using and extending the most fundamental physical theories to understand the basic structure of the universe. On these webpages, you will find information about our members and their research activities, relevant local events and how to apply for graduate study. We have close links with our colleagues in experimental Particle Physics as well as in Astrophysics, and with the Mathematical Physics Group in the Maths Institute.

For a summary of what we are working on see the "Three minute presentations" made at the start of each academic year.

If you are considering applying to do a D.Phil. in our group then please see the information on graduate study.

We hold a STFC Consolidated Grant and welcome applications for 2-3 year post-doctoral positions. Positions will be advertised and the deadline for applications is usually late November.

The Glasstone Research Fellowships are advertised annually with an early autumn deadline for applications.

We support suitable candidates for fellowships supported by external funders: see here for details. Please note that the Department runs formal processes for deciding who to support for fellowships and that these typically start two months or more before the funder deadlines. It is crucial that you follow the advice on making applications. If you are thinking about applying for any fellowship to be held in the group please make contact early -- we are very happy to discuss the possibilities with you.
