Detector activities

The Oxford group has, for over 20 years, been involved in the conception, design, commissioning and operation of the LHCb detector. From 2021, the LHCb Upgrade seeks to increase the capability of the detector to run at considerably higher luminosity with the goal of collecting up to a factor eight more data in the next decade. This is made possible by the exploitation of the latest detector technologies and reading out the entire detector at a rate close to the 40 MHz LHC clock frequency.

The Oxford group holds strong roles in the Ring Imaging CHerenkov counter and VErtex LOcator projects, as well as contributing particle identification expertise to the Real Time Analysis project that oversees the online selection and calibration of the data.
