Climate and Ocean Physics
Our research focuses on problems in basic climate dynamics and projections of climate change and associated uncertainties. Our interests span a wide range of topics in climate dynamics with a specific focus on the following areas: climate and ocean variability and its modeling; predictability and prediction; and interaction between the carbon cycle and climate.
Our work strongly relies on combining various tools: (1) theory: linear and nonlinear dynamics, fluid dynamics, thermodynamics, statistical mechanics, (2) a hierarchy of numerical models: from "toys" to state-of-the-art coupled global climate models, and (3) available observations: e.g., analysis and inverse models of sea surface temperature anomalies or sea level height.
