Open Days 2020 - Physics Open Days

Open Days - Wednesday 1st and Thursday 2nd July 2020

As a result of developments with coronavirus (Covid-19), and in line with Government guidance on social distancing, outreach events are not taking place as planned. This includes our July University-wide Open Days which will now run as virtual open days.

27 Jun 2020 - 9:00am

This course, which runs over the summer, is designed to improve your physics and maths problem-solving skills and help you prepare for the Physics Aptitude Test.

11 Jun 2020 - 4:30pm to 5:30pm

Are you thinking about applying to study physics at Oxford? Maybe you are interested, but have some questions? Or maybe you want to get to know the "real" Oxford?

We’re going to be running an online Q&A with current physics students on Thurs 11th June at 16:30-17:30. This is your chance to ask a panel of undergraduates what they think! You can bring questions about applications and preparation, or about studying physics in Oxford, or student life, or anything you think you want to know.

18 Apr 2020 - 10:00am

This year the Oxford Physics Masterclass will be on Saturday 18th April 2020. Owing to the current restrictions on face-to-face events, we are planning to run this as an online event. Details of how to join the event will be sent to those who successfully registered for it or were placed on the waiting list.

The Oxford Physics Masterclass aims to:

2 Dec 2019 - 2:00pm to 5:00pm

Would you like to find out more about studying for a DPhil in Condensed Matter Physics starting in October 2020? This open day will give you the opportunity to listen to talks about current research as well as discuss ideas for possible research projects with supervisors and post-docs. Current graduate students will also be on hand to answer questions and show you around the department.

TITLE: MAPPING THE UNIVERSE

Professor Karen Masters, Haverford College, PA, USA

I will talk about state-of-the art maps of the Universe, such as those produced by the Sloan Digital Sky Survey, which have revealed the complexity of structures on many scales found in our Universe. I will also talk about the development of these maps, and how our knowledge of the basic structure of the Universe, along with our place in it has changed so dramatically in the last several hundred years.
