Stratosphere and Climate

Group Leaders:

The Stratosphere and Climate group is based within the Department of Physics, University of Oxford and is lead by Professor Lesley Gray. We study processes and dynamics important to the climate and variability of the stratosphere, and their possible link with changes in the troposphere due to future climate change.

We employ a range of different methods ranging from the theoretical characterisations of waves and their influence on larger scales, through to large and extensive earth-system models which include: a well represented stratosphere, coupled fully dynamical ocean and extensive process parameterisations (e.g. small-scale waves, radiation, chemistry, biosphere, etc)

We also work closely with partners within the National Centre of Atmospheric Science (NCAS), the Met Office Met Office and the University of Reading.
