Particle Theory

We are based in the Rudolf Peierls Centre for Theoretical Physics, which is part of the Department of Physics at Oxford University. Particle theory involves both using and extending the most fundamental physical theories to understand the basic structure of the universe. On this site, you will find information about our members and their research activities, as well as details of relevant local events, information about applying for graduate study, and links to useful websites. We have close links with our colleagues in experimental Particle Physics as well as in Astrophysics, and with the Mathematical Physics Group in the Maths Institute.

For a summary of who we all are and what we work on please see the "Two minute presentations" made at the start of each academic year.

If you are interested in joining us as a postdoctoral researcher, please make an initial enquiry to a staff member. We hold a STFC Consolidated Grant and welcome applications for 2-3 year positions (usually considered in December).

We are also happy to support suitable candidates for:

ERC grants
EU Marie Skłodowska-Curie actions
Newton International Fellowships
1851 Royal Commission Fellowships
Royal Society Dorothy Hodgkin Fellowships
Royal Society University Research Fellowships
STFC Ernest Rutherford Fellowships

Departmental deadlines for these are posted here when announced.

There are also Junior Research Fellowships offered by Oxford Colleges (try searching the Gazette), and the Glasstone Research Fellowships.

We have been involved with many EC-funded Marie Curie Research & Training networks - presently with the ITNs LHCPheno Net & AMVA4NewPhysics.
