BBC Stargazing Live Event
A winter festival of all things space-related!
2pm - 10pm (last entry 9.30pm) - just pop in!
Come along to Oxford Stargazing to find out more about our night sky, from new planets to far-off galaxies and the vastness of the Universe.
Exciting hands-on stalls (indoor) for all ages, with astronomers available to answer all your questions about space: “What constellations can you see in the night sky this month?”, “Why do stars explode?”, “Is there life on other planets?” and “What happened at the very beginning of the universe?”.
Rain, sun, cloud, snow - there will still be plenty to see and do!
Watch astrophysicists from Oxford University battle it out with local amateur astronomers in “Universe-ity Challenge,” and hear mini “flash” talks on a wide range of fascinating topics covering the latest research in astronomy and astrophysics.
Get some hints and tips about star-gazing at home, with workshops run by local experts from Oxfordshire amateur astronomy groups and the University physics department. There will also be opportunities to “see” the Sun through solar telescopes, observe the night sky with our range of telescopes, tour the sky in an inflatable planetarium (Age 8+, last showing 8pm) and more. Explore our astro crafts area!
This is a drop-in event, tickets for individual activities will be available at the event. Talks, workshops and the planetarium will be taking place every hour. Observing will take place in the evening only.
Come and visit the home of astrophysics in Oxford!
