Services for the ATLAS strip tracker

Type I service modules

The design of the services for the future ATLAS tracker strives to achieve low-mass solutions, which also fit into the very constrained spaces between the detector layers. Because of constraints imposed by the installation schedule and the radiation environment inside the ATLAS experiment after LHC operation the service management needs to be robust and simple to allow for a fast service installation and connection.

With our UK collaborators we are working on developing type I service modules for the barrel strip tracker, with a local emphasis on the electrical cables and optical fibre ribbons. The cables are custom-fabricated multi-core assemblies with wires for electrical power and control lines, which we are developing with industry.
