Physics celebrates Oxford Diversity Week

20 May 2019

Physics celebrates Diversity - Join Us!

This week the world celebrates UN World Day for Cultural Diversity for Dialogue and Development on 21 May.
In our city, the Oxford Pride Festival is taking place from last Friday, 17 May, until 2nd of June.

Here in the Department, our colleagues Dr Kathryn Boast and Dr Andrew Princep are hosting a series of fantastic talks and events during this week, highlighting and discussing diversity in the field of STEMM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics and Medicine). There are a variety of workshops, lectures, panels, and a Wikipedia edit-a-thon exploring the intersection between sex, gender, disability, sexuality and race in STEMM and the researchers participating in it.
To book tickets for these events, including the talk by Professor Ian Shipsey on Monday 20th May 2019, please book online.

To support all these events within the Physics Department and the wider University, we are flying the rainbow flag from the main physics buildings during this period. We have also purchased around 200 smaller flags, which we encouraged our staff and students to hang from their office windows to make the support as widely visible as possible, but also demonstrating support on an individual basis as well. The flags were available for collection last Friday and they are all gone!
