Giulia Zanderighi, Professor of Physics at the Rudolf Peierls Centre for Theoretical Physics, has obtained a Friedrich Wilhelm Bessel Research Award from the Humboldt Foundation, Germany. These are awarded to internationally renowned academics from abroad in recognition of their outstanding accomplishments in research to date and their exceptional promise for the future.

Giulia's research is focussed on the phenomenology of elementary particles. She has been working on precision calculations in quantum chromodynamics, of particular relevance to the programme at the Large Hadron Collider at CERN, Geneva.

Giulia obtained a Laurea degree at the Università degli Studi di Milano and a PhD at the Università degli Studi di Pavia, and then held posts at the Institute for Particle Physics Phenomenology, Durham, Fermilab and CERN, before joining the Particle Theory Group at Oxford.
