On May 17th the Institute of Physics and Oxford University will be hosting a public talk by Professor Julia Yeomans, researching in the Physics of Soft and Biological matter.
Talk description
Active materials such as bacteria, molecular motors and self-propelled colloids, are Nature’s engines. They continuously transform chemical energy from their environment to mechanical work. Because they are tiny, the engines operate in a very different environment to manmade machines, where they have to contend with crowding, strong fluctuations and high viscosities.

A free one‐day science event for girls with exciting hands‐on workshops and activities. The activities are run by volunteer role models in STEM fields. The event is open to girls aged 11-14 years at secondary school (Years 7-9).
The Inaugural Quantum Materials Public Lecture will be presented by Professor Andrew Boothroyd. Please join us for an exploration of quantum materials - what they are, what they can do, and why they are so profoundly interesting!
The lecture will be followed by a drinks reception in the Martin Wood Lecture Theatre Foyer.
