Oxford Physics Online Masterclass

20 Mar 2021 - 10:00am

Come along to the 2021 Oxford Physics Masterclass to find out more about applying to study Physics at Oxford.
Registration for this event is now closed.

About the day

The timetable for the event can be found here.

If you have successfully registered for the event, please use these instructions to join our Isaac Physics group. Isaac Physics is a free online platform full of interesting physics problems.

The Oxford Physics Masterclass aims to:

  • Increase students’ interest in pursuing physics at university.
  • Raise awareness of application requirements and undergraduate courses at Oxford Physics.
  • Enable students to develop problem-solving skills and confidence which are essential for making competitive applications to Oxford Physics.

The event is a day-long online workshop, with participants joining remotely. It will include:

  • Advice on applying to study Physics at the University of Oxford
  • A lecture from Dr Chiara Marletto: 'Beyond quantum computation: the Science of Can and Can't'
  • Interactive problem-solving workshops

Students will be guided through the problem-solving process, and will solve a range of unusual problems with help and guidance.
The event will run via an online webinar platform between 10:00 and 15:30, with plenty of breaks.

Students who attend the live event will be able to ask questions and interact with the speakers through the online webinar platform. However, we will record many of the sessions, and these will be available on-demand for two weeks after the event for students who are unable to attend live.

Apply for a place

Apply for a place at the Masterclass by completing this online form. You will be asked whether you would like to attend live, or access the recordings later. Applications will close on 7th March.

Target Audience

Students in Year 12 who are studying Maths and Physics at A level (or equivalent), and who are interested in studying Physics at University, are invited to apply. In the event that the live event is over-subscribed, we will prioritise students who:

  • attend UK state-funded schools
  • attend schools with less history of students making successful applications to Oxford
  • live in areas with low participation rates in higher education, as defined by POLAR4 postcode data
  • identify as part of groups that are typically under-represented in the current physics community

Code of Conduct

We ask that everyone who attends this event abides by the event Code of Conduct, available here.
