Physics Alumni & Friends Garden Party

This year we are hosting our yearly event in the wonderful riverside setting of Wolfson College.

Hosted by the Head of Physics, Prof Ian Shipsey (also Moseley Centenary Professor of Experimental Physics) and including a fantastic talk by Prof Steven Balbus (Savilian Professor of Astronomy & Head of Astrophysics) who will be talking about his field of research: Black Holes and Accretion. The news in early April around the image taken by the Event Horizon Telescope have generated a lot of interest, and Prof Balbus is a world leader on this field of research.

Physics Alumni, their family and guests are welcome. This is a free event, but registration is required.

Please register here using the password: GardenPhys19 . If you encounter any problems, or have any questions, please email us.

Dress code is casual smart, and if you'd like to walk around the wonderful grounds, comfortable shoes (and hats if it is very sunny) are recommended.

The planned format of the day (may be subject to change) is as follows:

  • 15:00 – 15:30 Registration and welcome drink
  • 15:30 – 16:55 Welcome & Oxford Physics Update by Prof Ian Shipsey, and introduction to Guest Speaker, Prof Steven Balbus, followed by Q&A. The talk is entitled: 'Seeing the unseeable: how astronomers view black holes'.
  • 16:55 – 18:30 (as soon as talk ends) – Afternoon tea
  • 18:30 End of event

Some parking on site may be available, please enquiry.

Please let us know or cancel your registration if you find you are not able to attend, as places are limited.

We look forward to seeing you then!
