“Oxford Physics exploring the Planets”

Our second AOPP Physics Alumni event at the Royal Society, London, will take place on Friday November 11th, 2016.

Following the success of last's year's first event led by Prof David Marshall (Head of AOPP) and a panel of senior academics from the Atmospheric, Oceanic and Planetary Physics group, we are organising a second one focused on the work the Department of Physics is carrying on to explore the Planets.

Prof David Marshall (Head of AOPP) will host the event, which will consist in welcome drinks, five short talks of 15 minutes each, Q&A and a drinks and canapés reception. Following on alumni feedback, we are extending the length of this event to allow for more time to talk to the speakers and fellow alumni.

The following members of staff will give a short talk on these topics:

Dr Colin Wilson – Mars and Venus exploration
Dr Kerri Donaldson-Hanna – Exploring the Surfaces of the Moon and Asteroids in the Lab
Prof Pat Irwin – Giant planets & telescope observations
Prof Neil Bowles – Instrumentation and missions
Prof Ray Pierrehumbert – Diversity of planets & exoplanets
Prof David Marshall - Head of AOPP, will moderate the discussions, and
Q&A to the panel.

Format of the night will be:

18:30 - 19:00 - Welcome, registration and drinks.
19:00 - 20:15 - Talks
20:15 - 20:45 - Q&A
