Physics Christmas Carol Service 2014

Posted: 20 Dec 2014

The traditional Physics Christmas Carol Service took place yesterday in St Mary the Virgin Church (High St, Oxford.
About 100 people attended the lovely event, and heard the choir sing; readings by Prof Dame Jocelyn Bell Burnell (Astrophysics) and Professor Robert Taylor (Condensed Matter Physics) and enjoyed an informal reception with wine and mince pies.

As always, it is wonderful to see so many old and new friends on this occasion, and we look forward to the next one.

Here are some photos to illustrate...

Alumna Jean Chu visits the Department and meets with Oxford Women in Physics

Posted: 13 Nov 2014

Today we had a wonderful visit from alumna Jean Chu (St Hugh's), who met with the Oxford Women in Physics group in the Common Room (Clarendon Lab) during one of their regular meetings.

Jean shared some experiences of what it was like to be a female student of physics in the late 50's, and her career afterwards.

You may have seen Jean in the latest issue of the Physics newsletter (sent by post together with the 'Oxford Today' issue).

'From football to Physics' a way of life for Rhodes Scholar and Wadham College physics alumnus Joe Romig.

Posted: 20 Feb 2014

Wadham College has produced a lovely article about Joe Romig, who studied Physics here in 1963.

We had the pleasure to see Joe back in the Clarendon Lab last year during the Rhodes House 110th Anniversary celebrations, and also during Alumni Weekend; as well as earlier this year...even though he now lives in the USA.

You can read more about his journey here, on Wadham's website.

If you know Joe, or have any anecdotes of your time together and would like to send a message, feel free to [url=mailto:alumni@p
