Astrophysics: minor tools

This is a grab-bag of everything which is (or can be) available on Astrophysics desktop systems, but which doesn't fit anywhere else in particular. Some of the "available on request" items have been made available under the old MacOS X system setup, but have not yet been requested since the new-setup transition.

Please see also:

CARMA:

Can be made available on request.

CASA:

Installed in /Applications at system-build time. Available also for update from Self-Service.

Please note:

  • Newer versions will have their version numbers appended to their names, which permits more than one to be present in a system at the same time.

  • There is now a companion Symbolic Links package available to make (eg) casapy available at the shell prompt. This is necessarily specific to one particular version of CASA.

  • The newer versions have the ALMA pipeline stitched in, as this is the most-often requested variant. Please contact Physics IT Support (at our usual e-mail address) if you need the VLA pipeline instead.

GILDAS:

Available from Self-Service. Access after installation by:

Activate gildas

Heasoft:

Available from Self-Service. Access after installation by:

Activate heasoft

Karma:

Available on request.

Miriad (CARMA incarnation):

Available from Self-Service. The instance in the Centrally-distributed MacPorts build will be withdrawn at some point; in the meantime, the Activation will use the freestanding version if it can, and the MacPorts version if it must (or is directed to). Access after installation by:

Activate miriad
Activate miriad macports (# to specify the MacPorts build)

QFITSview

A FITS file viewer, similar to DS9. Installed by Self-Service into /Applications.

SuperMongo:

Now available from Self-Service. Please see:

Wrapper scripts

VAPOR:

Installed in /Applications at system-build time. Available also for update from Self-Service.

XMM-SAS:

Can be made available on request.
